Visiting Domaine Antonin Guyon – Episode #390

In this episode of 1337 Wine TV, Mark visits Domaine Antonin Guyon in Savigny-les-Beaune. He sits down with Hombeline Guyon daughter of Dominique Guyon. Hombeline was a gracious host and showed me around the facilities. She even had me taste a great selection of wines in the cellar. Since it was pretty dark down there, and I don’t bring my lights on these kinds of trips, we went to her office for the interview. We had to make a fairly short interview as the time allotted for my visit was almost up. I appreciate all the time Hombeline gave to me for a truly educational visit. Afterwards I spent some time at the Hill of Corton where Guyon has a few vineyards. I’ve included pictures of the area in our interview.

Thanksgiving Day Special 2017 – Episode #389

Mark is back with his annual Thanksgiving Day Special after skipping last year. Honestly, I forgot I didn’t do one. Mark does 3 wines he purchased from SommSelect. He bought a Thanksgiving Day 6-pack from them, but is breaking up the 6 pack in to two sets of 3. One for Thanksgiving and the other for Christmas. First up is the 2012 Dirler-Cade, “Belzbrunnen,” Riesling. Next is the 2015 Domaine Delarche, Pernand-Vergelesses “Les Combottes.” Finally Mark reviews the 2014 Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot, Passetoutgrain AOP. Just a correction to what he said as far as the proportions for the third wine, he said it was a 50/50-mix of Pinot Noir and Gamay. At the time he was pretty sure that wasn’t correct, but he got that info from a merchant website for the wine. The SommSelect tasting notes state 2/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Gamay. Both information is for the same wine and vintage. I’d tend to trust a Master Sommelier over someone else however.

Visiting Maison Trimbach – Episode #388

In this special episode of 1337 Wine TV, Mark makes the 3 hour drive from Beaune, France to the town of Ribeauville in the Alsace region of France to visit with Julien Trimbach of Maison Trimbach, Mark met Julien’s father Jean a few months ago and asked Jean about visiting. Jean was in the States at the time of Mark’s visit, but Julien was gracious enough to spend time with Mark. Please enjoy a wonderful interview with Julien Trimbach.

GruVee Caps – Episode#382

In this episode of 1337 Wine TV, Mark reviews the 2015 Franz Etz Gruner along with a new product from Coravin called the Coravin Cap. It allows you to use the Coravin system with screw cap wines. These were sent to me as a sample. This is the first of a total of 4 episodes where Mark will see how the “control” wine stands up to freshly opened bottles of the same wine every 30 days or so. So be sure to check back for each episode.
